The Metropolitan police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on February 9th on the 1400 block of Bangor Street, SE. The incident unfolded when officers, who were on proactive patrol in the area, encountered an individual in a courtyard and attempted to engage in a conversation.

According to MPD documents, the individual quickly fled into a nearby alley upon seeing the officers. As the officers pursued him into the alley, the suspect brandished a firearm and discharged at least one round. Immediate action was taken by the officers as they rendered aid to the injured suspect. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were subsequently called to the scene, and the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
