Phoenix police Release Body Camera Footage of Fatal Shooting During Armed Robbery
Newly released body camera footage has provided insight into the moments leading up to a fatal shooting by the police during an armed robbery in Phoenix last month. The incident occurred at a pawn shop near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road on January 27.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the pawn shop around 4 p.m. An employee at the store revealed that a man and a woman had stolen several guns by smashing a display case with a rock.
Officers were able to locate the suspects and promptly issued verbal commands for the man to put down his gun. In an attempt to incapacitate the suspect, one officer utilized a 40mm launcher, which fires rubber bullets, several times. However, the suspect then tried to break the window of a nearby truck using the gun.
As a result, four officers opened fire on the suspect, named as 42-year-old Guy Vogel Jr., shooting him multiple times. Vogel was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The woman involved in the robbery, identified as 25-year-old Felicia Evans, was taken into custody and booked on charges of armed robbery.
