Blount County District Attorney Ryan Desmond announced on Friday that Marcus DeHart, 41, has been accused of aiding the suspect after the homicide. He has been jailed and is set to appear in court on Monday. Carrie Mathews, 32, was arrested on her own “accessory after the fact” charge in Sevier County.

The arrests have prompted authorities to appeal to the public for any information on Kenneth DeHart’s whereabouts, increasing the reward for information leading to his capture to $100,000.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Director David Rausch expressed frustration at the suspect’s continued evasion, stating, “Somebody knows where he’s at. Somebody is protecting him. My question to them is why?”

The fatal incident occurred when the deputies initiated a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle for erratic driving. Kenneth DeHart, 42, refused to exit the vehicle, and the deputies attempted to subdue him with a stun gun, which proved ineffective. DeHart then produced a gun and opened fire, striking both deputies. At least one deputy returned fire, but DeHart managed to flee the scene.

Warrants have been issued for Kenneth DeHart on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

TBI Director Rausch reassured the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the suspect, stating, “We’re going to turn every rock over. We’ll find him, there’s no doubt.”

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
