TIRUPATI: A notorious bike thief was apprehended by the Proddatur III town police in YSR Kadapa district, leading to the recovery of approximately 21 stolen bikes. The accused, identified as Bathala Ankaiah, a resident of Duvvur town, was arrested on Monday.

The arrest came after a complaint was lodged by a 63-year-old man named Gorla Eswaraiah, who reported that his parked bike was stolen on 26th January. Acting swiftly, the Proddatur police nabbed Ankaiah near Pottipadu road and successfully recovered Eswaraiah’s stolen bike.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing 20 other bikes in the past. He revealed that these stolen vehicles were parked at an abandoned site near the outskirts of Proddatur. As a result, the police were able to recover a total of 21 stolen bikes, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 15 lakh.

The successful arrest and recovery operation was highly praised by YSR Kadapa SP Siddharth Kaushal, who commended the Proddatur police for their efforts. This arrest marks a significant achievement in the fight against bike theft in the district.
