Lakewood Church Shooting Suspect Identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno
Houston — The suspect responsible for opening fire at Lakewood Church in Houston has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, according to a search warrant obtained by Nexstar. The shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon when Moreno entered the megachurch armed with a long gun. The Houston police Department reported that she shot and injured one man before being killed by two off-duty security officers. Tragically, a young boy who accompanied Moreno was also shot and is not expected to survive.

The search warrant revealed that Moreno was armed with an AR-15 and had made threats about a bomb. Law enforcement officers observed substances consistent with the manufacture of explosive devices in her possession. It is currently unclear whether the threat was credible.
The off-duty officer who played a crucial role in apprehending Moreno has been identified as Agent Adrian Herrera from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). TABC Chairman Kevin Lilly commended Herrera’s quick response, stating that the officers’ actions likely prevented a much greater tragedy. Herrera, who has been employed by TABC for five years, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the shooting.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner described the suspect as a woman in her early to mid-30s who was wearing a trench coat and carrying a backpack. He also confirmed that the young boy with Moreno was shot during the incident, but did not specify whether it was a result of crossfire.
