Genesse Ivonne Moreno Identified as Suspect killed in Lakewood Church Shooting
The suspect who was killed in the tragic shooting at Lakewood Church in Houston has been identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, a 36-year-old transgender woman from Conroe. The incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, has left the community shocked and searching for answers.

According to a search warrant, Moreno entered the church lobby carrying an AR-15 rifle, accompanied by her young son. Law enforcement officials have revealed that the rifle had the word “Palestine” written on it, but have not provided details about the statements made by Moreno during the incident.
During the chaos, Moreno shot a man, prompting off-duty Houston police Department (HPD) and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) officers to engage with her. Moreno allegedly claimed to have a bomb, and one of the officers reported seeing a yellow rope and substances consistent with the manufacture of explosive devices.
When Moreno pointed her weapon at the responding officers, they were forced to defend themselves, resulting in her tragic death. Pastor Joel Osteen has confirmed that a 5-year-old boy was shot and another man was struck in the leg during the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries remain unclear at this time.
As investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, they have seized all electronic devices belonging to Moreno in the hope of uncovering a motive. The writings on the weapon have raised concerns, leading officials to explore a wide range of possible motives, including terrorism and hate crimes.
