Houston Police have identified the suspect who opened fire at Lakewood Church on Sunday as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, according to a search warrant obtained by Nexstar. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when Moreno entered the megachurch armed with a long gun. She shot and injured one man before being killed by two off-duty security officers. Tragically, a young boy who was with Moreno was also shot and is not expected to survive.
The search warrant revealed that Moreno was armed with an AR-15 and had made threats about a bomb. Police officers discovered substances consistent with the manufacture of explosive devices in her possession, although it is unclear at this time whether the threat was credible.
One of the off-duty officers involved in the incident has been identified as Agent Adrian Herrera, who was working security for the church at the time of the shooting. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission commended Herrera and other law enforcement agents for their quick response, stating that their actions likely prevented a much greater tragedy.
Agent Herrera, who has been employed by TABC for around five years, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the shooting.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner did not disclose Moreno’s identity during a news conference on Sunday but described her as a woman in her early to mid-30s wearing a trench coat and a backpack. Chief Finner also mentioned that the young boy with Moreno had been shot, but did not clarify whether one of the off-duty officers had accidentally struck the boy while returning fire on the suspect.
Chief Finner and Mayor John Whitmire will be hosting a press conference in Houston on Monday to provide further updates on the incident.
