Shooting Suspect Identified in Lakewood Church Incident

Houston, United Kingdom – The suspect responsible for the shooting at Lakewood Church in Houston has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, according to a search warrant obtained by Nexstar. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Moreno entered the megachurch, led by Pastor Joel Osteen, armed with a long gun.
The Houston police Department reported that Moreno shot and injured one man before being killed by two off-duty security officers. Tragically, a young boy who was accompanying Moreno was also shot and is not expected to survive.
The search warrant revealed that Moreno was armed with an AR-15 and had made threats about a bomb. Law enforcement officers noticed substances consistent with the manufacture of explosive devices in her possession, although the credibility of the threat is still under investigation.
One of the off-duty officers involved in stopping the shooter has been identified as Agent Adrian Herrera from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). Chairman Kevin Lilly commended the swift response of the officers, stating that their brave actions likely prevented a greater tragedy. Herrera, who has been with TABC for five years, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, speaking at a news conference, described the suspect as a woman in her early to mid-30s wearing a trenchcoat and backpack. He also mentioned that the young boy was shot but did not specify whether it was a result of the officers’ return fire.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Chief Finner and Mayor John Whitmire to provide further updates on the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
