Rental Snowmobile Crash in Milan Leaves Woman with Severe Injuries

Milan, NH – On a snowy Saturday morning, tragedy struck when a rental snowmobile crashed on Corridor 19 in Milan. NH Fish and Game received a distress call from NH State police Troop F, alerting them to the incident at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Due to the remote location of the crash, the nearest Conservation Officer was unable to reach the scene in time. However, two Coos County Sheriff Deputies happened to be nearby and swiftly responded. Alongside Berlin and Milan Ambulances, they worked tirelessly to provide assistance to the victim. Fortunately, one member of the riding party possessed medical training and was able to administer initial care until the arrival of first responders.
The victim, identified as Eloara Machado, a 41-year-old woman from Methuen, MA, suffered severe injuries in the crash. Consequently, it was decided that she needed to be flown to a major trauma center. The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) helicopter was immediately dispatched and met Machado at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. From there, she was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for further treatment.
Investigation of the scene by Coos County Sheriff deputies revealed that Machado had failed to navigate a corner on the trail, resulting in her veering off and colliding with a cluster of trees. The impact forcefully ejected her from the snowmobile, causing serious harm. It was later discovered that this was Machado’s first time operating a snowmobile, and she had rented the machine earlier that day from Northeast Snowmobile and ATV Rentals in Gorham. Authorities believe her lack of experience played a significant role in the accident.
