High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Missouri Man
Emmetsburg, Iowa – A dramatic high-speed pursuit in northwest Iowa came to a dramatic end on Friday night after a suspect struck a law enforcement officer with his pickup truck, causing extensive damage to vehicles and endangering other drivers.

The pursuit began around 9 p.m. when police in Pocahontas noticed a vehicle driving recklessly after leaving a convenience store parking lot. The driver, later identified as 39-year-old Drew Buersmeyer of Westphalia, Missouri, quickly accelerated northbound on Highway 4, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph.
During the pursuit, Buersmeyer attempted to release chainsaws from the back of his pickup truck, swerving dangerously close to the pursuing officers. He even forced several drivers off the road by veering into the opposite lane of Highway 4.
As the chase continued, Buersmeyer crossed into Palo Alto County and hit stop sticks deployed outside Emmetsburg. Despite hitting the stop sticks, he managed to keep driving at speeds of 70 mph. It was only when a Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputy successfully executed a “pit maneuver” near the intersection of Highways 4 and 18 in Emmetsburg that the pursuit finally came to an end.
As officers tried to remove Buersmeyer from the pickup, he allegedly placed the vehicle into drive and rammed a vehicle from the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office head-on, causing over $16,000 in damages. The pickup also struck an officer from the Pocahontas Police Department, though the injuries were reported as minor.

Despite attempts to block the pickup, Buersmeyer managed to ram into a squad car from the Pocahontas Police Department, resulting in over $10,000 in damage to the vehicle.
After a thorough search of the pickup, authorities discovered several ounces of marijuana. A dog that was also in the pickup was recovered and is now in the custody of family members.
Buersmeyer is now facing a range of charges, including operating while intoxicated or drugged, eluding, criminal mischief, assaulting a peace officer with intent to inflict serious injury, interference with official acts, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is currently being held on a bond of $33,300 and was also charged with contempt by a Pocahontas County Magistrate Judge due to his behavior during an initial court appearance.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and authorities have stated that additional charges may be filed..
