A Violent Altercation Leaves Transport Co-Driver in Critical Condition

An argument over a stolen cellphone took a tragic turn when one of the transport co-drivers was left fighting for their life in a shooting incident at a convenience store in Cleveland. The incident, which occurred on Pleasant Grove Road, has shocked the local community.

The suspect, Jontrell Walter Riley, a 23-year-old resident of Orangeburg, South Carolina, now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The victim, Djamel Mahouz, 36, remains hospitalized as a result of the altercation.

Late on Friday evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Cleveland police Department responded to a shots fired call at the Pilot Travel Center, located at Exit 20 on Interstate 75. According to the police report, an argument had erupted between the two co-drivers, Mahouz and Riley, both employees of a transport company. The dispute centered around allegations that Mahouz had stolen Riley’s cellphone.

The argument escalated into a physical confrontation inside their truck, during which Riley allegedly pulled out a 9-mm. semi-automatic Glock pistol and shot Mahouz once in the chest. Following the shooting, Mahouz managed to exit the vehicle and seek refuge inside the Pilot gas station, where he collapsed from his injuries.

Riley was apprehended by law enforcement officers at the scene without incident. Meanwhile, Mahouz was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Although his condition has since stabilized, he remains hospitalized and is in the process of recovering. Notably, Mahouz is originally from Ohio.

Riley is currently being held in custody without bond, as indicated by jail records. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Cleveland Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
