11 Arrested in Coweta County Commercial Gambling Sting

New details have emerged following the recent arrest of 11 individuals in Coweta County during a commercial gambling sting operation. The investigation was initiated several weeks ago after law enforcement received credible information about illegal commercial gambling and drug activity taking place at a residence in west Coweta County.

On Friday, February 2nd, members of the Coweta County Crime Suppression Unit executed a search warrant at 55 John Boy Trail in west Coweta County. During the search, investigators discovered a significant amount of evidence, including thousands of poker chips with various dollar amounts ranging from $1 to $500, multiple decks of playing cards, two poker tables, $2,985 in cash, a 9 mm handgun, and ledgers containing names and corresponding dollar amounts.

According to the incident report, players involved in the illegal gambling operation confirmed that they had given money to the homeowner, Anthony Johnson. Johnson would then store the funds in a cabinet and distribute poker chips to the players.

The individuals arrested in connection with the commercial gambling operation are as follows:

  • Christopher Daniel Born, 36, of Villa Rica, Georgia.
  • Scotty Dawson Bowie, 74, of Newnan.
  • Michael Shane Byrom, 46, of Sharpsburg, Georgia.
  • Thomas Wayne Ellis, 34, of Newnan.
  • John Joseph Hanna, 72, of Newnan (also facing felony possession of THC charges).
  • Frank Thomas Harper, 56, of Union City, Georgia.
  • Anthony Van Johnson, 44, of Newnan (also charged with keeping a gambling place).
  • Rohit Naik, 28, of Franklin, Georgia.
  • Willie Charles Reeves, 62, of Fairburn, Georgia.
  • Andrew Trevon Simpson, 37, of Newnan.
  • Hollis Timothy Tant, 66, of Bowden, Georgia.

The arrest of these individuals highlights the commitment of law enforcement in Coweta County to combat illegal gambling and related criminal activities. Authorities will continue to investigate the matter thoroughly and seek appropriate legal action against those involved.
