Tragic Drunk Driving Crash Claims Life of Young Man in Tazewell County
A devastating drunk driving accident in Tazewell County, Virginia, has left one man dead and a teenager seriously injured, according to the Virginia State police. The incident occurred on January 14, 2024, on Rt. 460, at around 12:19 a.m.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Michael Meadows, was operating a TC Scion heading west on Rt. 460 near Mayflower Road when he veered off the left side of the road. Meadows crashed into a guardrail before crossing Rt. 460 and colliding with an embankment.
Tragically, one of the passengers in the backseat of the Scion, 20-year-old Allen Smith from Richlands, was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Despite efforts to save his life, Smith succumbed to his injuries on February 2. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his grieving family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
Additionally, a 16-year-old male passenger also suffered serious injuries in the crash. Virginia State Police have not released any updates regarding the teen’s current condition. Thankfully, a third passenger managed to escape the accident unharmed.
Michael Meadows, the driver, sustained minor injuries in the crash. However, the police have charged him with driving under the influence (DUI), highlighting the potential role of alcohol in this senseless tragedy.
