A Child Walking to School in Poughkeepsie Grabs Headlines as She is Assaulted by a 61-Year-Old Man
In a horrifying incident that took place on Wednesday morning, a 14-year-old girl walking to school in the city of Poughkeepsie was grabbed and assaulted by a 61-year-old man. The City of Poughkeepsie police PBA took to Facebook to share the details of the incident.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Carroll Street. The young girl was approached by the man, who grabbed her and forced her to walk down the street. It was later revealed that the child did not know the man at all.
Several witnesses who saw the incident unfold tried to intervene and stop the man. However, he claimed to be a police officer and threatened to arrest them if they interfered. Undeterred, the witnesses persisted and managed to convince the man to release the girl. Immediately, one of the witnesses accompanied her to the police headquarters.
Thanks to the quick response from the police, the 61-year-old suspect was located and taken into custody by patrol units and juvenile detectives. After consulting with the district attorney’s office, the man was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree criminal impersonation, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
The suspect, whose name has not been released by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court. He was then handed over to the New York State Police due to an outstanding warrant against him.
