WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) are urgently seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in a fatal assault that occurred in Northwest D.C. The incident took place on February 2nd at approximately 2 a.m. when officers responded to a report of an assault in the 1100 block of 15th St. NW. Upon arrival, they discovered a severely injured man in critical condition.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as 41-year-old Vivek Taneja from Alexandria, Va., was accompanied by two individuals when the suspect approached them. A verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in the suspect knocking the victim to the ground. Tragically, the victim struck his head on the pavement, causing him to lose consciousness.

Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being transported to a hospital, Vivek Taneja’s injuries proved fatal, and he sadly passed away on February 7th.
