A Paphos resident was apprehended last night in connection with a case involving a church break-in, theft, and possession of burglary tools. The incident unfolded just after 11 p.m. when members of the Polis Chrysochous police station on patrol noticed a car parked in the courtyard of the Panayia Chrysovenetiotissa church, located in the Latsi area.

Upon entering the church, which was found to be unlocked, law enforcement officers discovered a man hiding among the pews. The 25-year-old individual was later identified as a resident from a Polis Chrysochous district community.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to entering the church with the intent to steal, stating that the door had been left unlocked. Assistant Operations Superintendent Michalis Nikolaou informed CNA that the young man managed to pilfer 13 euros in coins from the collection box. Additionally, police discovered various burglary tools in the trunk of his car.
As a result of his actions, the suspect has been remanded in custody. The Polis CID has assumed responsibility for further investigation into the matter.
