Mt. Vernon Man Detained and Cited After Herrin police Pursue Stolen Vehicle

A man from Mt. Vernon found himself in trouble with the law after Herrin police officers pursued a stolen vehicle. The incident took place on February 10, around 12:40 p.m., when Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified about the ongoing chase.
Initially, Herrin Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle due to multiple traffic violations. However, it soon became apparent that the vehicle was reported stolen, further escalating the situation. The driver refused to yield to the police, prompting a pursuit that led law enforcement westbound on Herrin Road, north on Cambria Road, and finally westbound on Illinois Route 13.
As the vehicle neared Spillway Road, deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Herrin Police attempted a rolling roadblock to slow down the suspect. Although the maneuver partially succeeded, the suspect managed to leave the roadway and drove through the median. Soon after, the vehicle turned southbound onto Spillway Road, traveling at a low speed.
Acting swiftly, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office executed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver, causing the stolen vehicle to lose traction and spin 180 degrees, eventually coming to a stop on the roadway. Multiple patrol units immediately blocked in the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Jake A. Gilmore from Mt. Vernon, along with two passengers, were swiftly removed from the scene and detained.

Gilmore now faces several charges, as cited by the Herrin Police Department. These charges include aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while license revoked. Following his arrest, Gilmore was transported to the Williamson County Jail, where he remains in custody.
