According to a release from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit continued westbound on Herrin Road, then north on Cambria Road, and finally westbound on Illinois Route 13. As the vehicle approached Spillway Road, law enforcement implemented a rolling roadblock in an attempt to slow down the suspect. The maneuver briefly halted the vehicle, but the driver managed to evade capture by driving off the road, through the median, and onto Spillway Road in a southbound direction.

In a dramatic turn of events, deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the stolen vehicle to spin around. Law enforcement officers quickly surrounded the suspect’s vehicle, preventing any further attempts to flee. The driver, identified as Jake A. Gilmore from Mt. Vernon, was apprehended, along with two other passengers who were also in the vehicle.

Gilmore now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Driving While License Revoked. He has been taken to the Williamson County Jail, where he will await further legal proceedings.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich commended the swift action of Herrin police, stating that the stolen vehicle was located so quickly that the victim was still in the process of reporting the theft. This incident highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in Williamson County, who are dedicated to protecting the community and its residents.
