Tragedy Strikes in Portland as One Person Dies in Naito Parkway Crash

Portland, Oregon – A devastating accident on Naito Parkway took a fatal turn early Saturday morning, resulting in the loss of one individual’s life. The Portland police have confirmed the death following the crash, which left four others seriously injured.

The Suspect Driver’s Actions Unfold

In a preliminary investigation, authorities have identified the suspect driver as 46-year-old Jacob M. Tabor from Washington County. Tabor was operating a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta travelling southbound on SW Naito Parkway when he was involved in a minor collision with another driver. Shockingly, Tabor did not stop at the scene and instead decided to flee.

A Collision at the Red Light

Tragedy struck when Tabor’s escape came to an abrupt end. He collided with a 2001 Toyota Camry that had halted at a red light at the intersection of SW Naito and SW Columbia Street. The Camry was occupied by three men, and the force of the impact caused one of the passengers to become trapped inside the vehicle.

Swift Police Response

Fortunately, the Portland Police had officers from Central Precinct nearby who witnessed the aftermath of the crash. Reacting swiftly, they immediately provided aid and called for paramedics. The officers performed CPR on the injured passenger until Portland Fire & Rescue arrived on the scene. All four individuals involved in the collision were then rushed to local hospitals with serious injuries.

A Tragic Loss

Despite the valiant efforts to save him, the rear passenger of the Camry tragically succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the driver of the Camry continues to receive medical treatment for severe, though non-life-threatening, injuries. The front seat passenger, fortunately, was treated and released.

Legal Consequences for Tabor

Jacob M. Tabor, who was taken into custody, received medical attention before being released from the hospital. He was subsequently transported to the Multnomah County Jail, facing charges that include DUII (alcohol) and second-degree assault. As the victim’s death occurred after Tabor’s booking, it is anticipated that additional charges will be brought against him.

The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing as authorities work to gather more evidence and information surrounding the crash. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time.
