Man Hospitalized and Faces Multiple Charges after Serious Crash in Downtown Colorado Springs

A man was hospitalized in Colorado Springs following a serious crash in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident occurred in downtown Colorado Springs and is expected to result in a series of charges once the man is released from the hospital.
According to the authorities, the police received a call just after 1:30 a.m. reporting a driver crashing into a parked car and then plowing into several storefronts at the intersection of Tejon and Bijou streets. Upon investigation, it was discovered that this crash was the culmination of a chain of criminal events that began with a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend blocks away.
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) provided further details, stating that the suspect and victim were involved in a heated argument outside a house in the 1900 block of South Prospect Street. The victim managed to escape and sought help from a neighbor across the street, temporarily evading the suspect. Seizing the opportunity, the suspect got into his car and intentionally drove it into his neighbor’s vehicle.
Undeterred, the suspect then attempted to break into a nearby home, believing his girlfriend was hiding inside. However, the homeowner, fearing for their safety, fired a single shot that struck the suspect. Meanwhile, the female victim was a block away, walking away from the scene at the time.

Despite being injured, the suspect managed to get back into his car and fled towards downtown Colorado Springs. Shortly after, the police received a call reporting a crash. The suspect had collided with a parked car and caused significant damage to multiple businesses along the 200 block of North Tejon Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police arrested the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Fidencio Meza-Pelayo. He now faces charges of kidnapping, assault, burglary, and several traffic violations.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed for their safety and privacy.
