According to witnesses, just moments before the devastating crash, the pilot calmly informed the airport controller that the plane had lost both engines and would not be able to make it to the runway. The jet, carrying a total of five people, including crew members and passengers, attempted an emergency landing on Interstate 75. However, it collided with a vehicle, dragging it along with its wing before crashing into a wall, causing a massive explosion.

Emergency Landing Requested by Pilot

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two individuals lost their lives in the tragic accident. Federal authorities have initiated an investigation into the crash, which occurred near Naples, Florida. The ill-fated plane had departed from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and was scheduled to land in Naples when the pilot requested an emergency landing.

Audio obtained by The Associated Press reveals the pilot’s exchange with the air traffic controller. “We’re clear to land, but we’re not gonna make the runway. We’ve lost both engines,” calmly stated the pilot, before the tower lost contact. Airport workers then spotted smoke rising from the crash site just a few miles away.

Narrow Escape for Witnesses

One witness, Brianna Walker, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the crash. She and her friend noticed the plane overhead and managed to pull over just in time. “The plane was over our heads by inches. It took a hard right and skid across the highway,” she said. Walker’s friend narrowly avoided being caught in the collision.
