Tragic Plane Crash Claims Two Lives on I-75 in Collier County
TAMPA, Fla. – In a heart-wrenching turn of events, two lives were lost on Friday afternoon after a small plane crashed on I-75 in Collier County. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as Pilot Edward Daniel Murphy, 50, of Oakland Park, and second in command Ian Frederick Hofmann, 65, of Pompano Beach.

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet, carrying five people, crashed onto the interstate near Naples. The pilot had reported a dual engine failure while approaching the Naples Airport, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
Tragically, Murphy and Hofmann did not survive the crash. However, three individuals miraculously survived the accident. The survivors included crew member Sydney Ann Bosmans, 27, of Jupiter, and passengers Aaron Baker, 35, and Audra Green, 23, both from Ohio. They were all rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.
The incident caused the northbound lanes of I-75 to be shut down for several hours, and as of this report, the southbound lanes remain closed. The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that the National Transportation Safety Board will be taking over the investigation.
