In a tragic incident on Friday, a private jet crashed near Interstate 75 in Collier County, Florida, at Mile Marker 106, also known as the Golden Gate Parkway exit. The crash occurred around 3:21 p.m., claiming the lives of two individuals, as confirmed by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. Thankfully, three people managed to survive the crash.

Following the accident, the northbound lanes of I-75 were reopened at 7:40 p.m., while the southbound lanes remained closed. The jet involved in the incident was owned by a charter company called Hop a Jet Worldwide Jet Charter.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken charge of the investigation, with a preliminary report on the crash expected to be released within 30 days. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the crashed aircraft was a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet. According to the Naples Airport, the jet was en route from Ohio.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has now released the names of the passengers on board. The deceased have been tentatively identified as Edward Daniel Murphy, 50, from Oakland Park, Florida, who was the pilot, and Ian Frederick Hofmann, 65, from Pompano Beach, Florida, who served as the second in command. The three survivors include Sydney Ann Bosmans, 27, from Jupiter, Florida, who was a crew member, as well as Aaron Baker, 35, and Audra Green, 23, both from Columbus, Ohio.

Further details emerged regarding the vehicles involved in the crash. Two southbound vehicles, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck and a 2023 Nissan Armada SUV, were damaged. The pickup truck driver, a 48-year-old man from Naples, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, while the three female occupants of the SUV were unharmed.

The FAA has closed a large section of I-75 in Collier County, with both southbound traffic at mile marker 111 (Immokalee Road) and northbound traffic at mile marker 105 (Golden Gate Parkway) affected.
