Two dead in Wrong-Way Crash on I-84 in Connecticut
In a tragic incident that occurred early Saturday morning, two individuals lost their lives in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 84 in Hartford County, Connecticut. The collision occurred just before 4:30 a.m. in the town of Manchester.
According to Connecticut State police, the driver of a 2008 Audi Q7 was traveling in the wrong direction on eastbound I-84 in the right lane, west of Exit 62. The SUV collided head-on with a commercial vehicle in the same lane before veering into the center lane and crashing into another truck.
The Audi’s driver, 44-year-old Brenda Mendrell from Hartford, and the front right passenger, Jermyra Cortes, also 44 years old and from Hartford, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the first truck involved in the collision reported no injuries. The driver of the second truck sustained what are believed to be minor injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
All three vehicles involved in the crash were towed from the scene due to significant property damage.
The investigations into the incident are still ongoing, and Connecticut State Police are urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
