A 41-year-old Indian-origin man, identified as Vivek Taneja of Alexandria, Virginia, has tragically died in the United States after sustaining life-threatening injuries in an assault in downtown Washington, DC. The incident occurred on February 2 at around 2:00 a.m. local time, and Taneja was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Metropolitan police Department in Washington, DC, responded to reports of the assault and found Taneja suffering from critical injuries. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Taneja succumbed to his injuries on February 7.

Tragically, this is the third death of an Indian student within a week. Shreyas Reddy, a student at the Linder School of Business, was found dead in Cincinnati, Ohio, under mysterious circumstances. The cause of his death remains unknown. The Indian Consulate in New York is working closely with Reddy’s family, offering all possible assistance.

Earlier, Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, was also found dead after being reported missing for several days. Similarly, Vivek Saini, another Indian student, was brutally killed by a homeless man with a hammer inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia. A video capturing the incident went viral on social media.

The string of attacks and deaths has raised concerns within the Indian community in the United States. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these crimes.
