About the Accident
In a tragic road accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, six individuals lost their lives and fifteen others sustained injuries, four of them critically. The incident took place just a few meters away from the Musunuru Toll Plaza towards Buchireddipalem road in Kavali mandal, which is located 60 km from here. A private travel bus collided with a parked lorry, which was then hit by another lorry from the opposite direction.
The Sequence of Events
According to the Kavali police, the accident happened around 3.00 am when a private travel bus, en route to Hyderabad from Chennai, crashed into a stationary lorry at a high speed. Almost simultaneously, another lorry coming from the opposite direction collided with the stationary lorry from the front. The impact was so severe that all three vehicles were left mangled. Four individuals lost their lives on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries at the area hospital in Kavali.
The Victims
Among the deceased were the drivers of both lorries as well as the private bus. Two of the passengers who lost their lives were identified as Rupa (32) and Suresh (33) from Chennai. The process of identifying the remaining victims is still ongoing. Rescue operations were challenging, with the police having to use gas cutters to retrieve bodies and rescue injured passengers trapped in the twisted wreckage.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Police personnel from various stations in the Kavali sub-division swiftly arrived at the scene of the accident, deploying five ambulances to transport the injured to the local area hospital. Senior police officials from Nellore and Kavali also visited the accident site to assess the situation. A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation into the incident is underway.
