Randy E. Allen Fatally Shot in Davis-Linden Building
Law enforcement officers, including five SWAT teams, were called to the Davis-Linden Building at 400 Linden Ave. in Dayton on June 17, following reports of an active shooter threat. The situation quickly escalated, with shots fired and a suspect inside the building, according to Lt. Steve Bauer of the Dayton police Department.
Multiple 911 callers reported a confrontation between two groups of men outside the Davis-Linden Building. Witnesses stated that some of the men were armed with baseball bats and that shots were fired from at least two guns, including a shotgun.
When authorities arrived, they discovered one man dead and another person injured. The deceased individual was identified as 45-year-old Randy E. Allen of Dayton, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.
Brian Shaffer, who works at a video production company in the Davis-Linden Building, described the tense scene as he left the office and encountered the large police response. He recounted how snipers aimed their guns at him before escorting him to safety.

Video footage captured by We Do Videos showed SWAT teams searching the building, while multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and local police departments, responded to the incident.
Initially, a suspect named Ashba was arrested in Centerville, but he was later released without charges. Dayton Police Chief Kamren Afzal explained that further investigation was necessary before filing charges.
In August, Ashba was indicted by a grand jury, although two counts of murder were ignored. As part of a plea deal, an additional charge of felonious assault and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business were dismissed.
Ashba is currently held in the Montgomery County Jail and is awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled for February 27.
The tragic incident at the Davis-Linden Building highlights the importance of thorough investigations and the need for law enforcement agencies to gather sufficient evidence before pressing charges. The loss of Randy E. Allen has left the community in mourning, and his family seeks justice as they await the upcoming sentencing hearing.
