A street gang known as the “Gilbert Goons” has wreaked havoc on a quiet Arizona town, terrorizing residents with a year-long spree of brutal attacks. Now, a Scottsdale lawyer has taken legal action against the gang members and their parents, aiming to hold them accountable for their actions.
Lawyer Richard Lyons has filed a lawsuit against 17 individuals identified as members of the “Gilbert Goons,” accusing them of assaulting victims and sharing videos of the attacks on social media. Lyons argues that the gang members were “dumb enough” to document their crimes, believing they could get away with it. The lawsuit also targets 26 parents of underage Goon members, holding them responsible for their children’s actions.
The Goons, described as a gang of “rich, white” teenagers aspiring to emulate gangster culture, have inflicted serious injuries on their victims, including skull fractures, facial fractures, and concussions. They have also subjected victims to further harassment and threats of violence even after the assaults.
Lyons asserts that law enforcement’s response to the attacks has been insufficient, leading to continued threats and even the fatal beating of 16-year-old Preston Lord at a Halloween party. Several arrests have been made in connection with the attacks, but Lyons argues that more should have been done to prevent these crimes.

The lawsuit follows an investigation by The Arizona Republic, which revealed a pattern of assaults by the Goons largely unchecked by authorities since 2022. The community has been shaken by the violence, prompting hundreds of activists to demand justice and raise awareness for the victims.
Gilbert police Chief Michael Soelberg has acknowledged that initially, law enforcement did not link the assaults to the same group of individuals. He clarified that while the department was initially unaware of the term “Gilbert Goons,” they were actively addressing instances of violent crime involving teenagers.
The legal action taken by Richard Lyons seeks to hold all those involved in the conspiracy accountable, whether through direct participation, aiding the attackers, or documenting the assaults. It is hoped that this lawsuit will bring justice to the victims and ensure the safety of the community in Gilbert.
