Active-Duty Soldier killed in Tragic Car Crash

In a tragic incident, an active-duty soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty lost his life in a car crash. The soldier, identified as Nathan Whorton, was ejected from an overturned vehicle after crashing into a tree. The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn, and Whorton was ejected when his seat belt broke.

Deputies at the scene reported that Whorton had been speeding at approximately 100 mph before the crash. There is also evidence suggesting that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Concerned for his safety, Harnett County 911 had received a call about Whorton’s drinking prior to the crash.
