Tragedy Strikes as Three Family Members Asphyxiate to Death at Odisha Brick Kiln

Angul (Odisha), Feb 10 – In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded near Kamalanga village in Kantabania police station area on Friday night, three members of a migrant family from neighbouring Chhattisgarh tragically lost their lives due to asphyxiation at a brick kiln in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. The deceased have been identified as Meghna Bhoi (50), Niran Bhoi (45), and their son Jitu Bhoi (7).

According to Hindol Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dipak Jena, the family had been engaged by brick kiln owner Binay Sahoo to work as migrant labourers. They were sleeping near the kiln when smoke from the kiln engulfed them, leading to their untimely demise. The incident came to light when another labourer discovered the family unconscious on Saturday morning and immediately rushed them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared three of them dead upon arrival, while the fourth family member, another son, was gravely injured and is currently receiving treatment at Talcher Thermal Hospital.

This unfortunate incident follows a similar tragedy that occurred in November last year, when two individuals also succumbed to suffocation near a brick kiln in the Kantabania area. The incident highlights the need for enhanced safety measures and increased awareness regarding the potential hazards faced by migrant workers in such work environments.

An investigation into this unnatural death case has been initiated, and authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this devastating event. The local police are determined to ensure that justice is served and that measures are put in place to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
