President of Prestige Lakeside Habitat and Six Others Arrested for Death of Nine-Year-Old Girl
The Varthur police have taken swift action in the case of the tragic death of nine-year-old Manya Damerla, who lost her life due to electrocution in the swimming pool of Prestige Lakeside Habitat in December last year. The president of the residential complex, Debashish Sinha, along with six others, has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
On the fateful evening of December 29, 2023, Manya was innocently playing near the pool when she accidentally fell into the water. Despite the desperate efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at a private hospital. Heartbroken and devastated, her father, Rajesh Kumar Damerla, filed a complaint, alleging negligence on the part of the maintenance staff and electricians, who failed to take appropriate safety measures despite being aware of the potential dangers.
Debashish Sinha, 37, has been identified as the main accused in this tragic incident. He served as the president of the Home Owners’ Association of Prestige Lakeside Habitat. Additionally, Safiq Rao, 44, vice-president of Prestige Property Management, along with electricians, senior technicians, and members of the swimming pool management team, Santosh Maharana, Gobinda Mandal, Bikas Kumar Paridha, Bhaktha Charan Pradhan, and Suresh Babu, have also been arrested. They all face charges under sections 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Investigation agencies have discovered that the apartment management and electricians were fully aware that the swimming pool carried live electric current, yet they failed to take adequate safety measures to prevent any potential harm. Tragically, when Manya entered the pool, she was immediately electrocuted, resulting in her untimely death.

The residents of the apartment complex, located off the Varthur-Gunjur road, have expressed their outrage and are demanding strict action against those responsible for the tragic incident. The authorities are fully committed to ensuring justice for Manya and her grieving family.
