Nine-Year-Old Girl Electrocuted at Prestige Lakeside Habitat Apartment Complex: Seven Arrested

In a tragic incident that occurred on December 29, 2023, a nine-year-old girl named Manya Damerla was electrocuted after falling into a swimming pool at the Prestige Lakeside Habitat apartment complex in Bengaluru. The Varthur police have now arrested seven individuals, including the president of the complex, Debashish Sinha, in connection with the incident. The accused were produced in court and subsequently sent to judicial custody.
According to the police, Manya was playing near the swimming pool at around 7:30 pm when the unfortunate incident took place. She accidentally fell into the pool and was immediately rushed to a private hospital. Tragically, the doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The main accused, Debashish Sinha, holds the position of president in the Home Owners’ Association of Prestige Lakeside Habitat. The other individuals arrested in connection with the incident include Safiq Rao, the vice-president of Prestige Property Management, as well as electricians Santosh Maharana, Gobinda Mandal, Bikas Kumar Paridha, and Bhaktha Charan Pradhan. Additionally, Suresh Babu, the owner of Vision India Marketing, has also been arrested. They have all been booked under sections 149 and 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to unlawful assembly and culpable homicide not amounting to murder, respectively.
Further investigation revealed that both the apartment management and the electricians were aware of the presence of live electric current in the swimming pool but failed to implement adequate safety measures. As a result, when Manya entered the pool, she was immediately electrocuted and tragically lost her life.

Manya resided at the Prestige Lakeside Habitat apartment complex with her family. Her father, Rajesh Kumar Damerla, is the founder-CEO of Life Simplified, a digital content-creation platform.
Following the incident, residents of the complex staged a protest, alleging negligence on the part of the apartment management in ensuring the safety of the residents.
This shocking development has led to the arrest of seven individuals, highlighting the need for stringent safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. The investigation continues as authorities seek to bring justice to Manya Damerla and her grieving family..
