The incident has left the residents of Albany shocked, but many still feel safe in what they consider to be a generally peaceful city. However, community leaders are calling for better conflict resolution to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

Tracey Taylor, Chairman for the Dougherty County NACCP Chapter, expressed her disappointment, stating, “It’s very disappointing, this is supposed to be a community where we can grow our families, children, and grow.” She emphasized the need for individuals to find healthier ways to resolve their disputes.

Larry Worthey, an Albany resident, also reiterated that the city is safe overall and attributed incidents like this to personal conflicts. He said, “It’s a safe neighborhood, and the city overall is safe. And I believe that sometimes people get into it a little more than they should and carry it out in the streets. But usually, it’s isolated to some people who have issues with each other.”

According to the police report, the shooting occurred after an altercation between three males inside the gas station. One of the males then returned to his vehicle, while the other two followed him outside, leading to shots being fired.
