Quadruple Murderer Sentenced to Death Penalty in Riverside County
In a shocking turn of events, a man convicted of a quadruple murder in Riverside County has been sentenced to the death penalty, officials announced on Friday. Jose Vladimir Larin Garcia, aged 24, was found guilty by a jury on February 6th of the execution-style murders of four people in Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
The victims have been identified as Carlos Campos-Rivera, 25; Jacob Montgomery, 19; Juan Duarte-Raya, 18; and Yuliana Garcia, 17, who was also pregnant at the time of the heinous crime.
The incident took place on February 3rd, 2019, when Larin Garcia was riding in a vehicle with three of the victims. They drove to meet up with the fourth victim, Campos-Rivera, outside of his apartment complex. Tragically, as soon as Campos-Rivera was spotted, the suspect shot him twice, with one of the shots being a fatal “kill-shot to the head,” before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams from inside the car followed by multiple gunshots and a loud crash. When officers arrived at the scene on Sunny Dunes Road, they discovered the bodies of Montgomery, Duarte-Raya, and Yuliana Garcia inside the crashed vehicle. All victims suffered targeted gunshot wounds to the head, indicating the calculated nature of the crime. Yuliana Garcia’s hand was also found injured, suggesting that she had attempted to shield herself from the barrage of gunfire at close range.
Following the incident, Larin Garcia attempted to evade capture. He was eventually found hiding underneath a truck a few blocks away from the crime scene. Covered in the victims’ blood and with his shoes and jacket removed, the suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of multiple abrasions. However, he managed to escape barefoot, still wearing his medical gown, prompting a manhunt.
The next day, investigators located and arrested Larin Garcia at a Greyhound bus station. He had changed his appearance, shaving his head and donning different clothing. A Florida-bound bus ticket, booked under a fake name, was found in his possession.
Larin Garcia faced four counts of murder, resulting in a mistrial in March 2022. However, a second trial was held, during which the jury found him guilty of four counts of first-degree murder. The jury also determined that the suspect had used a firearm and committed the crimes with premeditation and multiple victims involved. These special circumstances made him eligible for a death sentence.
On February 9th, a Riverside County judge affirmed the jury’s decision, sentencing Larin Garcia to death. The magnitude of the crimes committed that night has left a lasting impact on the victims’ loved ones, who must now navigate life without their children, fathers, and siblings. The decision to impose the death penalty reflects the heinous nature of these crimes and the lack of remorse demonstrated by the perpetrator.
