Arrest Made in Tragic Murder of Two-Year-Old Boy in Langley Park

The Prince George’s County police Department’s Homicide Unit has apprehended two men in connection with the heart-wrenching killing of a two-year-old boy in Langley Park. The suspects, identified as Israel Fuentes, Jr., a 33-year-old from Lewisdale, and Johnny Alejandro Turcios, a 28-year-old also from Lewisdale, now face charges related to the death of Jeremy Poou-Caceres, a young child from the Chillum area. This devastating incident, which occurred on February 8, 2024, also resulted in the non-fatal shooting of the victim’s mother.
On that fateful day, at around 5:35 pm, a detective nearby the 1400 block of Kanawha Street responded swiftly to the sound of gunfire. Upon reaching an apartment complex, the detective discovered the victims and immediately administered emergency aid to the toddler, utilizing a trauma kit provided by the department. Despite the detective’s valiant efforts, the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Thanks to the tireless investigative efforts of the police, coupled with the invaluable assistance from the community, Fuentes and Turcios were identified and apprehended. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were engaged in a shooting exchange with another group when stray bullets tragically struck the innocent mother and child, who happened to be nearby and uninvolved.
Assistant Chief Vernon Hale expressed the unwavering commitment of the investigative team, stating that they have worked relentlessly to bring those responsible to justice and provide some solace to the grieving family of Jeremy Poou-Caceres. As the investigation continues, authorities are actively seeking to apprehend any additional individuals involved in this distressing incident.

Fuentes and Turcios are now facing first-degree murder charges, among others, and are currently in police custody, awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
