LEXINGTON, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) has confirmed that one of their alumni was among the five Marines who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash during a training flight in San Diego, California on Wednesday, February 8th.

Captain Jack Casey, who graduated from VMI in 2019 with a major in physics, was a highly respected leader during his time at the institute. In fact, he was appointed as Company 1 commander for the 2018-2019 academic year. His dedication and commitment to his role made a lasting impression on his peers and earned him the admiration of his fellow students.

Following his graduation, Captain Casey was assigned to the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft 16, and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar. He was known for his exceptional skills and professionalism as a marine.
