Bell was taken into custody at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday by an Iowa state trooper. She was driving on Interstate 80 in Dallas County, Iowa, and was found to be in possession of Lehmeyer’s vehicle, which had been reported missing. The vehicle was the same one that Faribault police discovered when they found Lehmeyer’s body in his home later that day.

Investigators have determined that Bell stole the vehicle, and evidence recovered from the car has established probable cause for her arrest. The Rice County Attorney’s Office has issued a warrant for her arrest and extradition on a charge of motor vehicle theft, which will take effect after her Iowa case is resolved.

In addition to the theft charge, Bell is also considered a person of interest in Lehmeyer’s death. The Faribault Police Department has stated that their investigation has revealed that this was not a random crime. Bell and Lehmeyer were engaged in a legally qualifying domestic relationship at the time of his death.

Lehmeyer was found dead on February 5th when officers were dispatched to his home for a welfare check. Faribault Police Chief John Sherwin initially stated that Lehmeyer had “wounds that are consistent with trauma to the body,” but no further details about the cause of death have been released.
