Marine Corps releases names of fallen heroes in helicopter crash

The Marine Corps has identified the five brave Marines who tragically lost their lives when their CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed in the mountains outside San Diego during a historic storm. The young Marines, all in their 20s, were members of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

Among the fallen heroes was Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis, a 21-year-old from Olathe, Kansas. Davis, who had recently been promoted to the rank of lance corporal, was the youngest of the group. Another crew chief, 23-year-old Sgt. Alec Langen from Chandler, Arizona, also lost his life in the tragic accident.

The remaining victims of the crash were experienced CH-53E pilots. Capt. Miguel Nava, 28, hailed from Traverse City, Michigan, while Capt. Jack Casey, 26, was from Dover, New Hampshire. Capt. Benjamin Moulton, 27, came from Emmett, Idaho.

The news of their untimely demise has left their families devastated. Caryn Langen, the mother of Sgt. Alec Langen, expressed her grief, saying, “We will miss him dearly.” The loss of these courageous Marines is a stark reminder of the risks they face in their service to their country.

The ill-fated Super Stallion helicopter disappeared on Tuesday night while returning to Miramar from Creech Air Force Base.
