34-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable tragically lost his life on Saturday morning in a shocking incident that occurred as the Sarnath Express arrived at Raipur railway station. The constable, identified as Dinesh Chandra, was on duty with three colleagues and was returning to Raipur after a patrol. Alongside him was his colleague Ravinder Gujar, who got off the train when it reached Raipur. It was at this moment that tragedy struck.

As Gujar disembarked, Chandra picked up his rifle, unaware that it was loaded and unlocked. In a horrifying turn of events, two rounds were accidentally fired from the weapon. One bullet struck Chandra in the chest, while the other pierced through the upper berth seat and struck a 24-year-old passenger, Mohammad Danish, in the stomach. Danish had been peacefully sleeping at the time of the incident.

Chandra, a native of Rajasthan, was rushed to Ram Krishna Care hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Danish, on the other hand, is said to be in stable condition. He was traveling with his father, Ishtahar Alam, from Uttar Pradesh to Bhilai for medical treatment.

The railway officials have issued a statement highlighting Chandra’s negligence in handling the rifle. They stated that he failed to lock the weapon and kept it loaded, which contributed to the tragic accident. The incident has raised questions about the proper training and protocols within the Railway Protection Force.
