RPF Constable Killed in Mysterious Train Gunfire Incident at Raipur Railway Station
In a shocking incident that unfolded early on Saturday morning, an RPF constable was killed and a passenger sustained injuries in a mysterious case of gunfire inside a train at Raipur railway station. The incident occurred as the Sarnath Express (15159) arrived at the station.
The incident sent shockwaves through the S-2 Coach of the Chapra-Durg Sarnath Express, as passengers were abruptly awakened by the sound of two deafening gunshots. The bullets were fired from the service ARM rifle of RAF constable Dinesh Chandra, who was on the lower berth. The constable was hit by the bullet, while a passenger named Danish Mohammad, sleeping on the upper berth, was injured as the bullet penetrated the berth and pierced near his stomach.
Both the RPF constable and the injured passenger were immediately rushed to the hospital. Tragically, the constable succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

According to RPF officials, a team of RPF led by sub-inspector S D Ghosh had boarded the Sarnath Express from Uslapur station in Bilaspur district and was heading towards Raipur. The rifle reportedly went off accidentally during the disembarkation at Raipur station. The injured passenger, Mohammad Danish, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the state capital.
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances leading to the firing. RPF sources have stated that they are not considering it an accidental firing until the findings of the investigation are revealed. The Government Railway police (GRP) is currently investigating the matter.
As the investigation continues, details about the ARM rifle have also emerged. An RPF personnel, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the rifle has three systems – Stop, Rotation, and Auto. In stop mode, the rifle cannot go off accidentally unless the trigger is pulled. The ARM rifle has a capacity to shoot 20 rounds at once, which will all be discharged if the rifle is turned to automatic mode.
The incident has left authorities perplexed, as it is unclear how two bullets went off accidentally without the trigger being pulled. The RPF constable’s gun possibly fired while disembarking from the train, resulting in the tragic outcome. The passenger, though injured, is fortunate to have escaped being hit directly.
