Lynchburg Police Investigate Homicide on Morson Street

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) is currently conducting an investigation into a homicide that occurred on Morson Street, according to a press release issued by the LPD on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

On February 9, 2024, at 3:31 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 2600-block of Morson Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Carroll Mack, a 62-year-old resident of Lynchburg, with a gunshot wound.

Despite immediate aid provided by officers and Lynchburg Fire Department medics, Mack succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, described as a slender black male wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans, remains at large.

Investigation Underway

The LPD’s Forensics Unit and Criminal Investigations Division are actively engaged at the scene, working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Arrest Made

Following the investigation, Dabney Thomas Jr., a 34-year-old resident of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits.

Thomas Jr. is currently held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.
