Authorities Suspect Family Members killed in Philadelphia Fire

In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, authorities suspect that family members who died in a fire outside Philadelphia were killed by a relative who also shot and wounded two police officers. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer revealed this shocking development at a news conference on Friday.

According to Stollsteimer, six sets of remains have been recovered from the ashes of a fire that completely destroyed a home in East Lansdowne on Wednesday. The main suspect in this case is identified as Canh Le, 43, who is believed to have killed his niece and possibly the other victims as well. Tragically, Le also lost his life in the incident.

While the assumption is that the victims were shot before the fire was set, authorities have yet to confirm this theory. Gunfire was heard during a 911 call, and Le’s mother informed the authorities that he had shot one of her grandchildren. She managed to escape the house and seek help.

Surviving family members are in a state of shock, and no motive for the tragedy has been identified. Stollsteimer stated, “They don’t really have any idea, he just went haywire.” The victims are believed to be Canh Le’s brother, Xuong Le, 40, Xuong Le’s wife, Britni McLaughlin Le, 37, and the couple’s three children.

Remains believed to be Canh Le’s were found near a gun that was recovered from the fire debris. Canh Le had a prior arrest record, with charges including making terroristic threats, trespassing, and disorderly conduct. However, details of the incident were not immediately available.

The incident unfolded when police responded to a call about a child who had been shot at the home. As officers arrived at the scene, they encountered gunfire and two officers were injured. Officer John Meehan, 44, of the East Lansdowne department underwent surgery for a left forearm wound and was discharged on Friday. Officer David Schiazza, 54, from the Lansdowne department was treated for a leg wound and released from the hospital on Thursday.

Stollsteimer commended officers from Upper Darby for saving the lives of the wounded officers by pulling them to safety. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and the community is grappling with the loss of multiple lives in such a devastating manner.

East Lansdowne, where the incident occurred, is located approximately 5 miles west of downtown Philadelphia. This incident has left the entire community in shock and mourning as they come to terms with the loss of their loved ones..
