In a recent incident in Goshen, Connecticut, USA, the misuse of technology has resulted in the arrest of a man for electronic stalking. The discovery of an Apple AirTag on a woman’s vehicle has brought to light the potential dangers of technology when placed in the wrong hands.

Anthony Magro, a 33-year-old resident of Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been identified as the individual responsible for this invasive act. This incident serves as a stark reminder of how easily technology can be misused, even devices that are intended for finding lost items.

The series of events began on March 27, 2023, when the woman from Goshen reported the presence of an AirTag hidden inside the rim of her car’s front wheel to the local authorities. Initially dismissing the smartphone notifications as a forgotten item, she eventually discovered the tracking device after persistent alerts, prompting a thorough police investigation that ultimately led to Magro.

The woman had been receiving sporadic alerts on her smartphone since February 2023, but it wasn’t until March that a thorough search of her vehicle revealed the hidden AirTag. Unbeknownst to her, the device had been used to track her movements without her consent.

Following an extensive search, Magro was finally arrested on February 7, 2024. The authorities located him first in Torrington, Connecticut, and then in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was subsequently released on a $10,000 cash/surety bond while awaiting arraignment at the Torrington Superior Court.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of Apple’s anti-stalking features for AirTag, which were introduced in February 2022. These features are designed to alert individuals if they are being tracked without their authorization, providing an added layer of security and protection.

The case serves as a reminder of the critical need for awareness and vigilance regarding the potential misuse of technology in modern society. It also raises concerns about the privacy and safety of individuals in Connecticut and beyond. As technology continues to advance, it is crucial that manufacturers and users alike remain vigilant in protecting against its potential misuse..
