Investigation Underway into Fatal Crash in Central Alberta
Central Alberta Mounties are currently investigating the cause of a tragic and fatal crash that occurred west of Wetaskiwin on Friday afternoon. The incident, which took place on February 9, 2024, at 3:25 p.m., involved a serious collision between two vehicles on Highway 13 and Range Road 261.
Upon their arrival at the scene, investigators from the Wetaskiwin RCMP discovered that a sedan had been struck by a ½ ton pickup truck. Emergency crews immediately attended to the occupants of the sedan, but unfortunately, one of them, a 29-year-old male resident of Maskwacis, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on site.
The deceased has been identified by authorities as a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. His name and personal details have not been released to the public out of respect for the privacy of his family during this difficult time. However, it is known that he was beloved by many and will be deeply missed by friends, family, and the community he was a part of.
The driver of the sedan, who has also not been identified, was rushed to the hospital by STARS air ambulance with serious injuries. The exact condition of the driver is currently unknown, and it is hoped that they will make a full recovery.
