BREAKING NEWS: Suspected Serial Burglar Arrested in Lindenhurst

A Babylon resident has been apprehended by Suffolk County Police in connection with a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries in Lindenhurst this week. Matthew Matheis, a 30-year-old resident of 42 The Crescent, was taken into custody on Wednesday night following a break-in at The Casual Foot Spa on Montauk Highway.

The arrest came after officers from the First Precinct responded to a report of a burglary in progress at The Casual Foot Spa at 10:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that the front window of the store had been shattered. Inside, they found Matheis in the act of burglarizing the establishment. He was promptly arrested at approximately 10:35 p.m.

Further investigation by First Squad detectives revealed that Matheis was also responsible for two burglaries and two attempted burglaries at various businesses in the area since January 23. The targeted establishments included The Heathy Spa on Deer Park Ave. in North Babylon, The Laundry Room on Route 109 in West Babylon, and The Casual Foot Spa in Lindenhurst.

Matheis now faces multiple charges, including two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, two counts of Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, four counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and Possession of Burglar’s Tools. He is currently being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on January 25.

It is important to note that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and Matheis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

These recent incidents have left the Lindenhurst community on edge, but the swift action of the Suffolk County Police has provided some reassurance. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
