Tragic Firecracker Unit Explosion Claims Two Lives in Tamil Nadu
Chennai, Jan 24 (IANS) – In a devastating incident that unfolded in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, a firecracker unit explosion left two people dead and several others injured. The deceased have been identified as P. Kaliraj, a 20-year-old worker, and K. Veerakumar, a 50-year-old employee of the unit.
The explosion occurred while the workers were engrossed in their daily tasks, resulting in a horrifying turn of events. The injured victims, S. Saravanakumar (25) and S. Sundaramurthy (18), were rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital. Saravanakumar sustained 90 percent burn injuries, while Sundaramurthy suffered 70 percent burn injuries. Their condition remains critical, and they are currently under intensive medical care.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the explosion may have been triggered by friction between the materials used in making the fireworks. Fire and Rescue personnel promptly arrived at the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby areas. Their swift action helped control the fire and minimize the damage caused by the explosion.
The incident resulted in the complete destruction of four working sheds, reducing them to nothing more than rubble. The loss of life and the destruction of property has left the local community in shock and mourning.
