The suspect was found unharmed and was immediately taken into custody at the scene. It remains unclear whether he called 911 to report the crime.

Charlotte Vaitkus, a neighbor whose daughter knew the family, expressed shock over the incident. Vaitkus had no knowledge of any problems within the Kassem household and described the victims as intelligent individuals with ambitious career aspirations. She said, “They were all very intelligent. And they had very high goals in life like they were pharmacists and doctors, and she never knew that there were any problems at all at home.”
