Sunday Marked Two Years Since Tragic Death of Elk Grove Police Officer Tyler Lenehan
Sunday marked a somber anniversary for the Elk Grove community as they remembered the tragic death of police officer Tyler Lenehan. Two years ago, on this fateful day, Lenehan was fatally struck by a suspected DUI driver while riding his motorcycle on his way to work along southbound Highway 99.
The collision occurred when another driver, identified as 31-year-old Jermain J. Walton, veered onto the wrong side of the road. Lenehan, despite suffering severe injuries, was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center in the hopes of saving his life. However, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

Walton, the driver responsible for the accident, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was subsequently booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, facing several felony DUI-related charges.
This was not Walton’s first brush with the law. Sacramento County Court records revealed that he had previously been charged with a DUI in 2018, to which he pleaded no contest. As a result, he received informal probation.
The news of Lenehan’s accident and subsequent passing deeply affected his colleagues. Sergeant Jason Jimenez vividly recalled the moment they received the distressing call. “It’s never a good call, but immediately you think of his family, and everybody we work with. It was a tough day, one that none of us will ever forget,” said Jimenez.
Lenehan left behind his wife and two children, who affectionately called him “Ty.” Former Elk Grove Police Department Chief Timothy Albright spoke highly of Lenehan’s character, describing him as selfless and full of love for his family, his community, and his service.

To honor Lenehan’s memory, Elk Grove police had planned to meet with his family on Sunday to reminisce about cherished times with Ty. Additionally, the department will be joining forces with Mothers Against Drunk Driving in January, wearing patches in his honor.
“Truly, he served this community with honor, and ultimately, his family was his number one priority. He was a true example of what we should all aspire to be in life,” concluded Jimenez.
