Trooper Keith had stopped to help a disabled vehicle on a curved part of the interstate. Another trooper arrived to block traffic in the left lane since the car was stopped on a narrow left shoulder. As Keith finished changing the tire and was putting away his equipment, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, swerved around the second trooper’s vehicle and crashed into the concrete median barrier. The SUV then struck Keith and the rear of his police car.

Keith sustained critical injuries in the crash. The second trooper provided immediate aid while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Keith was then rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in stable but serious condition.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 22-year-old Armaandeep Singh of Indianapolis, was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious bodily injury. Singh was treated at a hospital before being transferred to the Marion County Jail.

Authorities have conducted a field sobriety test on Singh and have also taken a blood draw for further testing. The results of these tests are pending. Any actual charges filed against Singh will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office after a review of the case.
