Woman Arrested for Trafficking Methamphetamine and Heroin

SALISBURY — A woman has been arrested and charged with multiple drug trafficking offenses after authorities discovered methamphetamine and heroin in a lockbox inside her vehicle.

According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially pulled over a vehicle with a broken taillight on Interstate 85. The traffic stop took place near the Webb Road exit around midnight. Upon request for identification, the driver admitted to not having a license but provided an alternative form of identification. The female passenger, who claimed ownership of the car, also spoke to the deputy.

The deputy became suspicious when both the driver and the passenger displayed signs of nervousness and restlessness. As a result, the deputy called for a K-9 unit to conduct a search of the vehicle. The K-9 unit alerted the deputies to the presence of drugs. Subsequently, both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, and a search was conducted.

During the search, deputies discovered a lockbox in the front passenger area and a purse behind the passenger seat. Inside the purse, they found a keychain that matched the lockbox. Upon opening the lockbox, deputies reportedly uncovered 37.3 grams of a substance consistent with methamphetamine, as well as 0.8 grams of another substance resembling methamphetamine. Additionally, a small bag containing a substance believed to be heroin, two digital scales, and syringes containing substances resembling methamphetamine and heroin were found.

The passenger, identified as 49-year-old Heather Michelle Miller, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture a schedule I controlled substance, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia, and trafficking heroin or opium. Miller was subsequently booked into the Rowan County Detention Center, where she is being held on a $20,000 bond.

Public records from the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections indicate that Miller has a history of multiple drug-related convictions.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for driving with a revoked license and was released from the scene.
